BT has avoided it’s infrastructure arm, Openreach, being split off following Ofcom’s latest review. Many suppliers have argued that there should be a complete split of BT & Openreach sighting Openreach’s poor service and a lack of investment. Ofcom have instead ruled Openreach should be a legally distinct company with its own board, branding and control over its budget allocation in an attempt to drive improved service.

According to Pritesh Patel an ERA Communications specialist, “My clients often suffer service issues from Openreach and only time will tell whether Ofcom’s latest decision will deliver results. No doubt suppliers will continue the call for Openreach to be split up and competition opened up, in the meantime effective supplier management is key to making sure that Openreach is held to account and issues pre-empted wherever possible.”
