British Gas Business, the arm responsible for billing corporate clients, has been fined £9.5m by Ofgem for overcharging.

Inaccurate and late billing was blamed on the implementation of a new £40m billing system in 2014.

Since then, tens of thousands of UK business customers have been subjected to late and incorrect billing; seeing their business costs rise. Whilst British Gas reported itself to the regulator and is in the process of refunding customers, this highlights yet again the extent to which incorrect and inaccurate invoicing can lead organisations – in a wide range of areas – to end up overpaying for the goods and services they need to keep their business running.
