Most organisations will already be aware that come 2025, BT will be switching off all existing ISDN lines. Many organisations rely on ISDN – and have done so for years – to deliver essential services.

And while 2025 may still seem like some way off, as ever it pays to prepare early. BT has also announced that they are likely to stop selling new lines in 2020, just three years away. Current estimates put the number of ISDN lines in the UK at c. 3 million.

And it’s not just BT in the UK, in Europe, Swisscom are switching off ISDN by the end of this year. These organisations have been quick to make clear the benefits of the replacement IP lines; such as greater flexibility, higher bandwidth, and lower costs.

Any organisation not currently IP ready potentially has a narrowing window of opportunity to get their ducks in a row, or face the prospect of not being able to connect new lines and a potential knock-on effect to their business.
